i left my heart in lake powell

this is what i looked like yesterday

except i wasn't going that fast
and i wasn't that good
and i wasn't wearing a yellow coat and helmet
and i didn't have awesome powder skis
and i did definitely have a bigger smile on my face.

let me tell you the story.

so i was invited to go at 7 am
to get in the line to go up the canyon.
7 am? on a saturday? no.
i didn't think the line would be that bad.
so i woke up at 8 and grabbed my stuff and left.
then i got stuck in the line
that was as long and motionless
as the great wall of china.

i sat for over an hour.
bored out of my mind.
in my car by myself.
then the line started inching forward.
and finally at 11 i parked my car.

then i jumped on peruvian and to my surprise,
there was a crowd at the top
waiting for the tunnel into mineral to open.
so of course i joined with the crowd
ten minutes later, the tunnel opened.
i rode through.
what was on the other side?

3 feet of untouched powder.
yes.
better than i've ever experienced
in my whole life.

we cheered as we floated down.
everyone there was loving it.
i got 3 good runs in pure powder on mineral
before the rest of the people
on the mountain figured out what was back there.

then i waited in line to get up the lift for half an hour.
and then i skied down chips.
in the best snow i've ever seen on chips.

then finally, for the last run of the day,
i joined the invitee.
the best skier i know.
and skied more powder in the amphitheater
i even went off a little bush.
because it's fun to ski with people
especially real good skiers who know
where to find all the good stuff.

and then i drove home.
and now i'm sore.

it was a wonderful day,
most definitely worth the waiting in lines.
best powder i've ever experienced.
and i want more.

but i also have to make things clear.
that even during my most wonderful ski day,
i was missing lake powell.
powell will always be my number 1.
