Remembering Christ at Christmas

Wherefore,
ye must press forward
with a steadfastness in Christ,
having a perfect brightness of hope,
and a love of God and of all men.
Wherefore,
if ye shall press forward,
feasting upon the word of Christ,
and endure to the end,
behold, thus saith the Father:
Ye shall have eternal life.

Remembering Christ at Christmas

Lift up your head
and be of good cheer;
for behold,
the time is at hand,
and on this night shall
the sign be given,
and on the morrow
come I into the world...

Remembering Christ at Christmas

And now, my sons,
remember, remember
that it is upon the rock
of our Redeemer,
who is Christ,
the Son of God,
that ye must build
your foundations;

that when the devil
shall send forth
his mighty winds,
yea, his shafts
in the whirlwind,
yea, when all his hail
and his mighty storm
shall beat upon you,
it shall have
no power over you
to drag you down
to the gulf of misery
and endless wo,
because of the rock
upon which ye are built,
which is a sure foundation
whereon if men build
they cannot fall.

Helaman 5:12

Remembering Christ at Christmas

Come unto me,
all ye that labour
and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you,
and learn of me;
for I am meek
and lowly in heart;
and ye shall find rest
unto your souls.

For my yoke is easy,
and my burden is light.

Matthew 11:28-30

Remembering Christ at Christmas

For God so loved the world,
that he have his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in Him
should not perish,
but have everlasting life.

Remembering Christ at Christmas

For I was an hungered and ye gave me meat;
I was thirsty, and ye gave me dring;
I was a stranger, and ye took me in;

Naked, and ye clothed me;
I was sick, and ye visited me;
I was in prison and ye came unto me.

Verily I say unto you,
Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my bretheren,
ye have done it unto me.

Matthew 25:35,36,40

Remembering Christ at Christmas

Behold,
I am he who was prepared
from the foundation of the world
to redeem my people.

Behold,
I am Jesus Christ.

I am the Father and the Son.
In me shall all mankind have life,
and that eternally,
even they who shall believe on my name;
and they shall become my sons and my daughters.

Ether 3:14

Remembering Christ at Christmas

Therefore,
what manner of men
ought ye to be?
Verily I say unto you,
even as I am.

note to self:

think before you speak.

So I always seem to say the wrong thing at the wrong time to the wrong person.  It happens quite frequently.

Two examples from this week:
  1. I told my teacher I was bored in class and that I wasn't getting anything out of what we had been doing for the past 2 hours. Yikes.  And my teacher is a vicious lady.  Lets cross our fingers that my grade does not suffer because of it.
  2. I told my students that i had 5 shots yesterday.  Lets just say they thought I meant shots of alcohol.  No.  I meant shots from the doctor.

Remembering Christ at Christmas

His hour had come.
He was alone,
yet among crowds of people.
Alone he was,
with eager angels waiting to comfort him.
Alone with his Father in deepest sympathy,
but knowing that his son must walk alone
the bloody and tortuous path.
Alone he had been in the garden -
praying for strength to drink the bitter cup.

He who alone on the earth
created the world, and all that is in it;
he who made the silver from which
the pieces were stamped which bought him,
he who could command defenders on both sides of the veil -
stood and suffered.
What dignity!
What mastery!
What control!

I'm going.

I'm going to help others.
But even more, I'm going to help me.
I'm going because I need something.
Something to strengthen my testimony.
Something to get me away from the distractions of the world.
Something to get me back on the right track.
Something to remind me what's really important.
I'm going to gain experience.
I'm going to live, to learn, and to grow.
I'm going so I can be more thankful.
I'm going so I can be more humble.

I'm going to learn from them.
Learn about the simplicity in life.
Learn happiness.
Learn to serve.

I know that they have these very important somethings.
And I know that as much as I want to give,
I have even more room to grow.

Remembering Christ at Christmas

He is utterly incomparable in what He is,
what He knows,
what He has accomplished,
and what He has experienced.
Yet, movingly, he calls us His friends.

As the only perfect person to sojourn on this planet,
 there is none like him.

In intelligence and performance,
He far surpasses the individual
and the composite capacities and achievements
of all who have lived, live now, and will yet live!

He rejoices in our genuine goodness and achievement,
but any assessment of where we stand in relation to Him
tells us that we do not stand at all.
We kneel!

"We should honor
the Savior's declaration
to 'be of good cheer.'
Indeed, it seems to me
we may be more guilty
of breaking that commandment
 than almost any other!"

- Jeffrey R. Holland

"Daughter!  Get you an
honest man for a husband...
Regard the honor and moral character
of the man more than
all other circumstances.
Think of no other greatness
but that of the soul,
no other riches but those of the heart.
An honest, sensible, humane man,...
laboring to do good rather than be rich,
to be useful rather than make a show,...
is really the most respectable
man in society."

quote of the weekend:

"I will go forward, I will smile at the rage
of the tempest, and ride fearlessly and triumphantly
across the boisterous ocean of the circumstance...
and the 'testimony of Jesus' will light up a lamp
that will guide my vision through the portals of immortality."

emigration

guess how much i love the grocery store.

lots.

enough to go walk around there for no reason without buying anything.

it happens.

well the new emigration opened yesterday and i love love it.

it makes me wish i lived on my own so i would have to stock my house with that deliciousness.

i could spend hundreds of dollars there.

lately i've been craving bell peppers.  and onions.  stir fry.

i made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies two days ago.

and i ate a grand total of 9 yesterday.

good thing pumpkin is healthy.

book review #4

CAN YOU GUYS BELIEVE I'VE READ 4 BOOKS!?

The Simeon Solution
by Anne Osborn Poelman

loved it.
highly recommend it.

it's a short, easy read.
i read it on my way home from cali.
and the author is a brilliant woman.

it's about her life; how she was brought to the gospel, and some trials she experienced along the way.
it wasn't too churchy but it did reinforce some of the main gospel principles.

some favorite quotes:
"I finally realized that the rhythm and pace, the 'times and seasons,' of each individual's life are different.  The critical thing is to discover what our own times and seasons are and to make the most of them, not yearn to follow someone else's timetable.  Heavenly Father has a plan, not just for his children collectively but for each one of us individually."

"Truely, if we're patient, faithful, and open to promptings from the Spirit, the Lord can and does work joyous miracles in our lives."

"Our Heavenly Father does indeed take an active interest in his children's lives.  The Creator of a million million galaxies and worlds without number is aware of each one of us.  The Savior told his disciples that the very hairs of their heads were all numbered.  Imagine that!  The Lord is intimately involved in the details, not just the general scheme of things."

The Simeon Solution:

  1. Trust the Lord.
  2. Learn to recognize and heed spiritual promptings.
  3. Focus on the fundamentals.
  4. Stand firm in the faith.
  5. Be patient.
  6. Adopt the eternal perspective.
  7. Keep the commandments.
  8. Know the Church is true.

book review #3

no one can take your place by sheri dew

so it may have taken me forever to finish this book.
it's very similar to sheri dew's other books.
but it is definitely good.

since it took me so long to read, i honestly don't remember much about it.
but here are a couple lines i loved:

speaking of marjorie hinckley:  "she did it!  she did what she came here to do.  for everywhere she went, marjorie hinckley left everyone she met better and happier and more confident than she found them."

quoting eliza r. snow:  "when you are filled with the spirit of god, and the holy ghost rests upon you...do you have any trials?  i do not think you do.  for that satisfies and fills up every longing of the human heart, and fills up every vacuum.  when i am filled with that spirit my soul is satisfied."

i really think sheri has some great things to say and i like the way she writes.
i'm sure god has planned for an amazing man to come into her life someday.

  • you want to buy a tankini instead of a bikini

jen,

love the jewelry,
love the hair,
cute glasses,
can i be you for a day?

capandgown

well even though i graduated 5 months ago,
i still walked today.
one week before i start again.

allow me to tell you about graduation day.

i expected the morning part with all the grads to be a bore.
but it was far from that.
the keynote speaker had me laughing
and he had me crying.
seriously guys, tears were coming out of my eyes in the huntsman center.
i didn't even care what the guy sitting next to me thought when i wiped my eyes.
it was real good.

the afternoon part wasn't as good.
but i'm glad i went to get something to hold my diploma.
its been sitting in the envelope i got it in for the past 3 months.

here are some pics.

yay for days during which the sun shines.

oh, and happy birthday to my great grandma,

row row rowin my boat

loved the red stairs.
but vegas or times square? i dont know.

cutest table and chairs

have a lock?  need a lock?

so good it should be a sin.

love me a cop on a horse.

yes please.

monet, that's just huge.

needless to say, it was a great trip.

but when i got back, i had a flooded room.
and about ten stained skirts.
after a whopping dry cleaning bill,
most of the skirts were saved.

thank goodness the dry cleaners are miracle workers.
if my favorite skirt hadn't come clean,
i would have had a funeral.
luckily only 2 were ruined for good.

i've spent the past week
doing loads of laundry,
ironing,
sleeping with fans,
and cleaning up the mess.
hence, the lack of blog posts.

anyways, my final thoughts on new york?
loved it.
but there are other places i'd choose to see before i go back again.
